About Paola

Paola Moreno-Roman is a Peruvian scientist, educator, and founder of “Yachaq Warmi,” an initiative empowering women in STEM, particularly from underrepresented and Indigenous backgrounds. She earned a Biology degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Stanford University, becoming the first in her family to pursue a doctorate. Inspired by her family’s journey from the Peruvian Andes to Lima, Paola is committed to breaking barriers in education and science. She co-founded the “Mini-Academia de Ciencia y Tecnología,” which won the 2017 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. A Vital Voices Visionary Fellow, she has spoken at APEC Ciudadano events in Peru and currently serves as a Lecturer at Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University and a Strategic Partnerships and Outreach Consultant at Foldscope Instruments, Inc.
