Aspen Policy Academy

Cyber Civic Engagement is an initiative of the Aspen Policy Academy that empowers everyday individuals to become effective cybersecurity policy experts. This work builds on Craig Newmark Philanthropies’ Take9 initiative, a public service campaign aimed at increasing cybersecurity awareness.

Our flagship Cyber Civic Engagement initiative is the Scam Fighters Workshop, a free monthly virtual training that teaches you how to take action against cyber threats close to home. We also offer 1:1 coaching with expert Academy staff to help you advance your own cyber policy ideas in your community.

We are very interested in partnering with local organizations, community groups, and more who want to empower their friends and neighbors to advocate for better cyber practices. Contact us to discuss how we can work together!

Thank you to Craig Newmark Philanthropies for supporting this initiative.

Scam Fighters Workshop

Our Scam Fighters Workshop is for people who have been affected by cyber scams, or know others who have been affected. Whether you want your public library to install secure Wi-Fi, or your kid’s school board to adopt policies that protect student data privacy, or your local police department to learn about proper cybercrime reporting, our programs can give you the tools necessary to advocate and improve cyber safety in your community.

This 1-hour workshop will ensure that you can effectively advocate for better cybersecurity practices to the people who can do something about it, including city councils, school boards, and utilities commissions. The training will also teach you how to translate your ideas into action through written letters and public comments.
